The service sector has witnessed rapid growth in international transactions over the past two decades. Global commercial service exports have risen from US$ 1.65 trillion in 2000 to US$ 5.65 trillion 2018, with developing countries contributing to about one-third of these exports.1 Globally, services constituted around 65 per cent of GDP in 2017.2 In the Indian context, services have played an instrumental and growing role in the economy and in the country's engagement with the world, particularly since the initiation of economic reforms and liberalization in 1991.
