Intellectuals and intellect workers: The role of the educator in today's fierce world

Description

Gita Sen was a keynote speaker at the opening plenary of the 8th ICAE World Assembly, held on June 15, 2011, in Malmö, Sweden. In her address, Sen drew connections between DAWN’s emerging analysis of the challenges posed by the “fierce new world” and the evolving role of intellectuals and educators. The ICAE World Assembly, held every four years, brings together adult educators and learners from across the globe and is dedicated to advancing the goal of building just and equitable societies. Within this context, Sen emphasized the critical responsibility of educators and intellectuals in interpreting global transformations and engaging with issues of inequality, social justice, and development.
