Revisiting performance management in changing context
Description
Last week I was conducting a session with Income Tax commissioners on leadership. My opening question in the session was, “What has changed in your organisation in the last decade?” The five aspects that had changed in their context were technology, speed, taxpayers’ expectations of being treated like customers, transparency and the regulatory environment. As you read this, many of you from the corporate sector may be wondering, “How different is this from what I am experiencing?” Intensified competition in global markets requires organisations to become more efficient and effective. Changing public policy dynamics have compelled the private, public, government and not-for-profit sectors to collaborate and create new hybrid forms of organisations. It would be no exaggeration to state that technology is profoundly and fundamentally transforming the way we live and work.
