Retrieve Indian money stashed abroad

Prof. Vaidyanathan was lecturing on “Effect of Black Money in the Indian Economy” at the monthly lecture conducted by the Bharatiya Vichara Kendram. “When the recession struck the West, countries tried to retrieve money that their citizens had stashed in tax havens. India should also put pressure on these places to get back its share. Countries like Switzerland have substantial investments in our country. We should ask them to cooperate or face the consequences,” he said. He outlined statistics of ministers’ foreign trips to these tax havens, which, according to him, are not known to the Prime Minister’s Office. Prof. Vaidyanathan expressed suspicion that many of these trips may have been linked to safe destinations for stashing black money. He further stated: “When the German government announced that it had procured a list of people who had hidden their wealth in such places and made it available for free, most countries were interested in obtaining it.
