Abstract

The achievements and shortcomings in the field of agriculture and rural development in the post-Independence India have been analysed from the policy perspective. Altogether, the book contains nine chapters. In the introductory chapter, the author presents the importance of agriculture and rural development in the overall development of the country. Later he explains the significance of policy formulation in promoting such development Policies, according to the author, not only provide a long-term frame and wider perspectives for the plans, programmes and projects but also gives a sense of direction (p. 20). He also highlights the necessity of adopting ‘long term perspective’ and ‘holistic view’, for reviewing the policies.
