Abstract
In recent times knowledge management has become a critical initiative for organisations. According to Tom Stewart1, an organisation that is not managing knowledge is not paying attention to business. Every company needs to answer the questions What do we know? and Where is the knowledge? Companies around the world have begun to make real business contributions through practices associated with knowledge management. Practices centred around KM have started yielding substantial results in global companies like Buckman Laboratories, Arthur Andersen, Microsoft, E&Y, Chevron, HP, BP Amoco, Booz Allen. More and more companies are initiating KM in their organisations to gain competitive advantage.
