Abstract
The 90s witnessed a transformation of Indian business and industry that was at the same time exciting and frightening. The economic reforms, although implemented in graded installments, had a ready response, matched with good business sense. They made an impact on several fronts, not the least important one being the increasing interest and confidence in other countries to partner Indian businesses for mutual benefit. On the other hand, there were the obvious difficulties of growing too suddenly, too
fast and, as some observers felt, too late. The rapidity of growth carried the distinct possibility of growing recklessly rather than responsibly. Managing growth in a given economic environment is a subject that is well established in professional literature.
