Abstract
Leadership is probably the most desirable managerial attribute but one that is seriously lacking in most organisations. While managers do a good job of maintaining and sustaining existing organisational systems, they fail to steer innovation and transformational change. Today, while the literature on the subject helps managers appreciate the dynamics of leadership, it is short on insights on how to develop oneself as an effective leader of people. Beginning with the nature of leadership and various approaches to leadership development, Anup Singh emphasises the primacy of selfempowerment and self-reprogramming in realising one's leadership potential and presents certain techniques that can be successfully used for developing oneself as a leader.
