Abstract
Since the early nineties, the Indian IT sector has distinguished itself by virtually becoming an engine of growth for the entire economy of the country, ranking amongst the highest export revenue earning sectors. What needs to be clarified, though, is that this sector has been largely made up of software services companies that have been based on the availability of a large pool of low-cost manpower with leading-edge skills, and have benefitted from the worldwide shortage of skilled IT manpower. Consequently, owing to the low risk and relatively low capital investment requirements and the low business risk associated, they have clocked high Compound Annual Growth Rates (CAGR) in the range of 40 to 50 percent over the past several years, and produced quick profits and stellar performances year after year.
