Abstract
The recent past has seen a spurt of proposals regarding privatisation. The most famous has been the Kelkar proposal, which was almost immediately countered by a proposal from the chairman of the Disinvestment Commission (DC), G V Ramakrishna, for the setting up of a National Shareholding Trust. In between, the Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry had come up with its own proposal regarding disinvestment. These proposals sparked off a debate regarding the privatisation process and brought into focus the issues and concerns regarding privatisation in India
